About my blog
Welcome to my first film blog! I chose the topic of the hood films because I grew up watching films from the 1991-1995 with my dad and a lot of those films are constant with the hood genera. I have seen many films such as Straight out of Brooklyn (1991), Juice (1992), Just Another Girl on the IRT (1992) and many other films including New Jack City. After watching New Jack City again knowing all that I have learned these past couple of weeks, i’m excited to share my findings! Listed above are all my posts, take a look.
Synopsis
New Jack City (1991) is a compelling story of drugs in not only the black but white community. The genera is classified as a hood hilm, but embodies other genera’s like heist, crime and ethnicity, and gangster films. The main character, Nino Brown, is planning a heist to be the lead distributer of cocaine during the epidemic in Manhatten, New York. Once he makes it big, there are a lot of people after him including Scotty Appleton and Nick who are cops, that cant stand each other, that no longer work for the force. Scotty and Nick construct many different plans that are a bust like sobering up a former crack head, Pookie, to be a rat and work for Nino. That plan fails as Pookie begins to use and gets caught up because of it and is murdered. Scotty takes matters into his own hands and is the rat which seems to be working until one of Nino’s workers remembers seeing him on the street as a cop. Scotty tracks Nino down at one of his apartments and has him arrested in front of all the people in the community he has wronged. There we learn Nino killed Scotty’s mother. The film touches on social and ethnic issues.
